With cooler temperatures settled in and days that seem like there’s very little any daylight, it can be tough to always feel like your home is a cozy place to be. That spreads far beyond having annual furnace service too, because there are various things you can do to help make your home feel comfortable even when your furnace is running at its best.
Here are four that we find very helpful here in Long Island:
- Seal air leaks. Air leaks, whether they’re around your windows or your doors, can mean quite a bit of air is escaping your home. It goes without saying that the air that you’ve just paid to be heated or cooled is making its way outside as well. There are a host of choices that can help you close those gaps, from weatherstripping to caulking, and they are relatively easy fixes for homeowners to do themselves.
- Change your furnace filter. This is one of the most critical things you can do to not only increase your furnace’s efficiency, but also to help save you on your energy costs. Plus, you don’t need to have your furnace service technician to do it, you can take care of it yourself. It’s typically recommended to change your furnace filter every one or two months to get the most out of its capabilities, but some may last even longer.
- Get plants. Indoor plants can provide a host of comforts for your home. Not only are they visually appealing, they can possibly improve your indoor air quality as well because plants absorb a host of contaminants that are emitted from a variety of common household cleaners, paints and other products.
- Furnace service. This should be something that you’re already handling, but it never hurts to receive a reminder. Having furnace service performed annually helps make sure that your furnace is in working-order, and if there’s a need for repairs, those can be handled so your comfort isn’t compromised.
It doesn’t have to feel hard to keep a comfortable home when winter sets in. Feel free to give us a call at 631-737-5566 to hear about any of these suggestions or find out more about furnaces, our furnace service or anything else comfort related.
