With cooler temperatures settled in and days that seem like there’s very little any daylight, it can be tough to always feel like your home is a cozy place to be. That spreads far beyond having annual air conditioner service too, because there are various things you can do to help make your home feel comfortable even when your air conditioner is running at its best.
Here are four that we find very helpful here in Long Island:
- Seal air leaks. Air leaks, whether they’re around your windows or your doors, can mean quite a bit of air is escaping your home. It goes without saying that the air that you’ve just paid to be heated or cooled is making its way outside as well. There are a host of choices that can help you close those gaps, from weatherstripping to caulking, and they are relatively easy fixes for homeowners to do themselves.
- Change your air conditioner filter. This is one of the most critical things you can do to not only increase your air conditioner’s efficiency, but also to help save you on your energy costs. Plus, you don’t need to have your air conditioner service technician to do it, you can take care of it yourself. It’s typically recommended to change your air conditioner filter every one or two months to get the most out of its capabilities, but some may last even longer.
- Get plants. Indoor plants can provide a host of comforts for your home. Not only are they visually appealing, they can possibly improve your indoor air quality as well because plants absorb a host of contaminants that are emitted from a variety of common household cleaners, paints and other products.
- Air conditioner service. This should be something that you’re already handling, but it never hurts to receive a reminder. Having air conditioner service performed annually helps make sure that your air conditioner is in working-order, and if there’s a need for repairs, those can be handled so your comfort isn’t compromised.
