Flood Damaged HVAC Equipment (Indoor or Outdoor)

Hurricane Sandy recently impacted a significant number of Long Island communities.

This storm may have affected equipment by flooding or other weather related damage.

We are cautioning residents of areas impacted by recent flooding to promptly call a trained, professional contractor to inspect all heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment before resuming operation.

Any equipment affected needs prompt inspection, cleaning and possibly replacement before resuming operation. Flooding or partial to full submersion of HVAC equipment can damage safety features within the unit and the controls.

Consumers, whose units may have been subjected to flooding, are advised to immediately contact a trained, professional service contractor to assess the equipment. Airmax Long Island, Inc. recommends that any HVAC equipment subjected to flooding be replaced and scrapped to avoid any risk of injury or harm.

The immersion or partial immersion by floodwaters has compromised the equipment's operational components and the warranty on such products is voided. Flood damaged equipment should be handled as a homeowner's or Building owner's insurance claim and the equipment replaced, and not repaired as a warranty claim or standard service call.

In the short term the equipment may run, but over time, wiring harnesses and other components may have long-term issues and degradation of safety functions, reliability, and performance.
